An original British faerytale by Webborn & Finn

Spindlewood is home to a Clockmaker.

A tormented genius, out of place in a town where each day mirrors the last

and the people are content.

But Abraham Reed has a secret.

. . something the simple folk of the town below

must never discover.

Through methods hidden even to himself,

the Clockmaker has created something

much, much more than a machine. . .

Compositional Vision

The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Michael Webborn and Daniel Finn,
is a tale of lost love and new life.

It touches on modern themes such as prejudice, discrimination, animosity and fear of the unknown, while remaining true to the conventions of classic fairy tales, as established through the work of Hans Christian Andersen and The Brothers Grimm.

Set in Ireland at the turn of the 19th century, The Clockmaker’s Daughter is a folk musical with a specific, yet timeless, feel.

Synopsis

The Clockmaker’s Daughter.

‘A town should have a tale to tell.
‘Be it Highwaymen, or Wishing Wells,
The Ghost that stalks the graveyard,
The Banshee and her cry,
The Whisper Tree where lovers die,

Every story longs to be heard.
And this, is hers . . .’

Spindlewood, like most towns of age, has its traditions.
But no practice, custom, or Old Wives Warning is so firmly adhered to as ‘The Turning of the Key’.
Every year, on the last night of winter, as the first day of spring unfolds, the townsfolk gather to take part in a strange ritual.
They meet in the centre of the town square, where a statue bearing the likeness of a young girl stands, poised and still, one hand raised as if to toast the sky.
Constance has stood in the square for as long as any can remember.

And she is never more life like than tonight.
